Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her

Year: 2001
Country: USA
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Starring: Glenn Close, Cameron Diaz, Calista Flockhart, Amy Brenneman, Holly Hunter, Kathy Baker, Valeria Golino, Matt Craven and Gregory Hines
Synopsis: Five women deal with unexpected challenges that life throws their way. In one subplot, a lesbian faces her lover's life-threatening illness.
Quick review: I almost didn't list this film, because the lesbian subplot is very minor. If you're looking for a strictly lesbian film, this is not an option. Calista Flockhart plays a fortune teller who is a lesbian. Her partner is dying of some unknown disease and testing the for better or worse part of their unspoken vows. She remembers the happy times, but are they enough to get her through the challenges of watching the woman she loves die? The other subplots involve a woman lonely for love who must care for her mother; a woman who gets pregnant even though her boyfriend wants nothing to do with having children; a strange relationship between a mother, her son and their neighbor; and two sisters, one who is blind, and the death of someone from their past. The acting is, well, as good as you would expect looking at that cast. The story will keep you engaged, but don't expect a lot of lesbian action.
