Sex Monster, The

Year: 1999
Country: USA
Director: Mike Binder
Starring: Mike Binder, Mariel Hemingway, Renée Humphrey, Taylor Nichols, Missy Crider, Christopher Lawford, Joanna Heimbold, Kevin Pollak, Stephen Baldwin
Synopsis: Mike Binder's fantasy of lesbian love is somehow turned into a very disappointing film of a woman who begins to cheat on her husband with other women.
Quick review: Don't bother with this film. It's not a gay movie. It's a straight man's fantasy of what they want lesbianism to be about: Basically, the two women need a straight man in their bed to complete the picture. And if you find that insulting, wait until you sit through this film. The writer/director/star shows he has no understanding at all of what same-sex love is about. Marty (played by Binder) has been trying to talk his wife Laura (played by Mariel Hemingway) to engage in a threeway with him and another woman. After months of nagging, the straight Laura agrees, because pleasing her man is so important to her. Once she gets a taste of women, she can't get enough and eventually Marty is out of the picture. Oh, he will sometimes climb into bed with Laura and her prey for the night, but for the most part he's sleeping on the couch. Then suddenly when Marty's health is in danger, Laura realizes what is truly important to her: Marty. She swears off sleeping with women and will from now on only devote herself to sleeping with Marty. (Did I mention this is a straight man's fantasy?) She now finds the idea of pursuing another woman as horrible. It's horrible alright, as in horrible movie. Sitting through it will only raise the blood pressure. It's time for the straight man's idea of lesbianism to be retired in Hollywood.
