My Girlfriend's Boyfriend

Year: 1998
Country: USA
Director: Kenneth Schapiro
Starring: Valerie Perrine, Deborah Gibson, Chris Bruno, Linda Larkin, Jill Elizabeth Novick, Sean Runnette
Synopsis: A guy who just started dating a woman is trapped into attending the marriage of her best friend. Once there, he discovers that the groom is gay and his boyfriend is not happy about the marriage.
Quick review: This film returns to the days of the screw-ball comedy that once were so popular, but kind of fall flat with modern audiences. Jake just started dating Jill after working together for years. Jill has to go to the wedding of her best friend, Cory, and does not want to show up sans boyfriend. So Jake is dragged, pretty much kicking and screaming, to the weekend wedding. Once there he's given a great business opportunity and needs to come up with an excuse good enough to get him out of the wedding so he can attend an important meeting. The best man suggests he play gay. That way he can get out of it without pissing off his boss too much. But it isn't long before Jake realizes the best man has a different agenda. He actually is gay and he and the groom are secret lovers. Since the groom is a soap opera star, he must stay hiding in the closet and go through with this sham of a marriage. Jake tries to help them hide their secret, keep Jill from killing him, and falls in love with a tabloid photographer trying to get shots of the soap star's wedding. Oh, and make it to his important business meeting on time. Singing star Deborah Gibson stars as the bride's mother and sings the title track. That's pretty much all that's notable about this film, which reminds you why screwball comedies have fallen out of favor.
