Let's Go To Prison
Year:
2006
Country:
USA
Director:
Bob Odenkirk
Starring:
Will Arnett, Dax Shepard, Chi McBride, David Koechner, Dylan Baker
Synopsis:
A convict who has spent more years of his life behind bars than in the real world decides to get revenge on the judge who keeps sentencing him to jail. One problem: The judge is dead. But there's always his son.
Quick review:
Dax Shepard plays John, who has been in prison for most of his life. He comes to believe that the prison system is to blame for why he turned out so bad and that the judge who first sentenced him to juvenile hall when he was 8 is to blame. The fact the same judge, Nelson Biederman III kept sentencing him as an adult only adds to John's rage. Now that he's around 30 and recently released from prison, John is determined to get his revenge. But Biederman died three days earlier. But a chance meeting with Nelson Biederman IV (Will Arnett) gives John his chance. He sets up the unsuspecting judge's son to take the fall for an armed robbery. So Nelson Biederman IV is off to prison and John gets himself arrested so that he can follow and torment him. A few bribes and they're cellmates. Enter Barry (Chi McBride), who takes a liking to Nelson and begins to woo him. Nelson resists, fearful of being raped in prison. But soon a real romance begins between Nelson and Barry. This is one of this silly movies that doesn't challenge your mind, but is a nice diversion if you have the time. The usual prison gay jokes and stereotypes are kept to a minimum, and it was nice to see a prison comedy that didn't have a rape scene. And one where the gay couple turns out to be the heroes.
