Three of Hearts

Synopsis: When a lesbian couple breaks up, one of them decides she's willing to do anything to get her lover back, including hiring a male prostitute to woo her ex.
Quick review: Connie and Ellen have their problems, but in Connie's view, they are nothing that can't be overcome. But when a confused Ellen leaves her in the middle of Washington Square in New York, Connie is devastated. Unfortunately, she soon has to make an appearance at a family event and has promised everyone she would be bringing her significant other. Desperate to save face, she hires a male escort (William Baldwin) to play the part. Soon, the lesbian and the escort develop a friendship and hatch a plan. He will pursue Ellen and win her heart, and then promptly break it, thereby sending her running back to the arms of Connie. Yeah, that's quite a leap but when your heart is aching the illogical can appear logical. What Connie did not figure on was the escort falling in love with her ex. The straight love story gets more attention than the lesbian one, but the hurt and pain Connie is going through is something anyone who has had their heart broken can relate to. In terms of gay film history, that's a pretty good message for 1993. This is a nice romantic comedy and a good film for rental.
