Fraternity Massacre at Hell Island

Year: 2009
Country: USA
Director: Mark Goshorn Jones
Starring: Tyler Farrell, Billie Worley, Corie Ventura, Kaleo Quenzer, Scott Fetcher, Michael Gravois, Jon Devin, Tosh Newman, Jim Eikner
Synopsis: The gay members of a fraternity try to stay alive on initiation night and avoid the killer clown that is running around killing their frat brothers.
Quick review: I probably would have given this a 1 rating, but the film I saw after this (and next up to be added) was even worse. So by comparison, it gets a 2. Jack, a pledge for the ZAP fraternity house, must spend the night with the other pledges on haunted Hell Island as part of his initiation. Jack is semi-closeted, but sleeping with one of his frat brothers. They are not the only gay couple in the fraternity house. The film sets up a number of suspects in its first third, each with a reason for wanting to knock off frat boys. My biggest problem with this horror film, besides the traditional low-budget concerns of over acting, is the lack of suspense. The cliche horror tricks used to build suspense, such as the scary music and then a cat jumps out at you; and once you relax and the music is quiet, then the murderer strikes, are missing. And I don't think it takes a great detective to figure out who done it. The second I saw the Killer Clown, I knew. But if you enjoy campy horror films with good looking college-age guys, maybe you'll find something to like about this. For me, I just couldn't get over the opening scene of a gypsy curse or the fact that Hell Island looks suspiciously like Mud Island in Memphis.
