Quick review:
If you're old enough you'll know Mindy Cohn the first second you see her in "Violet Tendencies," because she still looks like Natalie from the television series "The Facts of Life," just a little older. In this comedy, she plays Violet, who is the last fag hag standing among her friends and who has a 40th birthday coming up. All the other fruit flies have found a man of their own and no longer hang out at gay bars. Violet decides it's time for her to find love as well. She ignores her best gay pals-- one of whom is her roommate who has commitment issues, and two others who are a couple considering fatherhood -- to find love. She thinks she has with a man from her home state, but her friends ask is she just settling and hiding who she really is because of her fear of being alone? They all agree that Violet needs that mythical beast known as a fag stag, a straight man who enjoys gay culture and hanging out at gay bars. Might as well look for a unicorn, Big Foot, etc. Most of the comedy comes from shock value, mainly having Mindy Cohn say wildly inappropriate words. I didn't enjoy the comedy as much as I did the story, of one person's search for love and how much are they willing to sacrifice of themselves to find it and avoid being alone.
